The National - High Violet
On The National’s 5th LP, they seem to have expanded (and improved) on the sounds they made in 2007’s “Boxer”. Released on May 10, 2010, this album features a ton of lush instrumentation, haunting melodies and even a few up-tempo numbers (“Bloodbuzz Ohio”). Vocalist Matt Berninger is truly a rarity with his strong melancholy baritone vocals.
For whatever reason, I simply cannot stop listening to this album. I recently retrieved about 70GB of old music off an old desktop, and even after sorting through several thousand of my favorite albums, this album’s melodic, ambient and (dare I say) accessible nature keeps drawing me back in.
I’ll be buying this on vinyl the next chance I get.
