Greetings from the urban jungle and bright lights that is New York City. Well, actually, Long Island. Suburbia, soccer moms and beaches. I suppose it is northern enough for me to join the team of the Northern Review. I’ll take it!
This wasteland, however, is a musical paradise. A place that has given birth to such notable acts as Wheatus (jk), Glassjaw and Brand New. I don’t get to tap into it as much as I like, but I hope to remedy that soon enough.
Anyway, onto my inaugural post: There’s already been a post regarding the new National Album, but I’ll use my first post to link to a news item that excites me greatly: The National is collaboratingwith Sufjan Stevens on his new album:
Well, good news, kids: according to the National’s Bryce Dessner, Stevens is indeed hard at work on a new album and is currently recording in the band’s Brooklyn studio.
“We’ve played on some of the tracks and been listening to some of the stuff as he’s been working on it,” Dessner told Exclaim! in a recent interview.
To satisfy your aural needs, Sufjan’s The Perpetual Self, Or “What Would Saul Alinsky Do?” is embedded above. Enjoy.
